Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, has publicly reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that he will support whatever decision the President makes regarding the 2027 general elections—even if it includes the possibility of becoming his running mate.
Speaking at a media briefing ahead of the zonal public hearings for the Senate Committee on Constitution Review, which he chairs, Senator Barau addressed growing speculation about his potential role in the next election cycle.
“Right now, our focus should be on governance, not politics,” he said. “President Tinubu is working tirelessly to reposition Nigeria and drive national prosperity. Discussions about 2027 are premature.”
The Deputy Senate President added that while he appreciates groups advocating for his future candidacy, their energy should be redirected toward supporting the President’s current efforts.
“President Tinubu is not just a leader to me; he’s a political father. If he asks me to take any step in the future, I will gladly do so. My loyalty to him is complete,” Barau emphasized.
On the constitutional review process, Senator Barau revealed that the Senate Committee is currently reviewing 59 constitutional amendment bills and 31 additional proposals submitted by stakeholders. He encouraged Nigerians to participate through public memoranda as the zonal hearings kick off across the country’s six geopolitical zones.
