A severe overnight downpour has left a trail of destruction in Kebbi State, destroying over 100 houses in Zogirma village, Bunza Local Government Area. The heavy rainfall, which lasted several hours on Friday night, caused widespread flooding that displaced many families and left several villagers injured.
Eyewitnesses, including local resident Haruna Danmalam, confirmed the scale of the devastation, stating that the affected community is now grappling with damaged homes and disrupted livelihoods.
Responding to the disaster, the Secretary of Bunza Local Government Area, Malam Muhammed Umar Mawo, visited the affected community on behalf of the Local Government Chairman. He extended heartfelt sympathies to the victims and assured them that the council is preparing a detailed damage report to be submitted to the state government for urgent intervention.
Meanwhile, similar flooding incidents have been reported in Arewa Local Government Area, where four villages—Tungar Chindo, Tungar Kure, Feske Malabawa, and Feske Rafi—were submerged. According to local authorities, over 60 houses were lost, along with livestock and valuables estimated at hundreds of thousands of naira.
The latest incident underscores the growing vulnerability of communities in Kebbi State to climate-related disasters, highlighting the urgent need for effective flood mitigation strategies and disaster response plans.
