Senate Replaces Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, Appoints Senator Aniekan Bassey as Chair of Diaspora and NGOs Committee

In a recent leadership shake-up at the National Assembly, the Senate has appointed Senator Aniekan Bassey, representing Akwa Ibom North-East, as the new chairman of the Senate Committee on Diaspora and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs).

This appointment effectively replaces Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central, who had previously been named chair of the committee on February 4, 2025. The change was announced during Tuesday’s plenary session, though the Senate did not disclose specific reasons for the decision.

Senator Bassey is expected to assume the new role immediately, as the Senate continues its strategic restructuring of key committees.

This development marks the second reassignment involving the Senator in recent months, following her earlier removal as Chair of the Senate Committee on Local Content. The move reflects ongoing internal adjustments aimed at optimizing legislative performance and oversight.
