The National Assembly of Nigeria has officially announced the suspension of all legislative activities following the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR. The late statesman passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, in London, United Kingdom.
In a joint statement issued by the leadership of both Chambers, the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives directed that plenary activities be suspended until Tuesday, July 22, 2025, in honour of the former President’s service and contributions to the nation.
All members of the National Assembly have been urged to adjust their schedules to participate fully in the burial rites and ceremonies planned in memory of the late president.
On behalf of lawmakers and staff, the National Assembly expressed its deepest condolences to:
The government and people of Nigeria,
The government and people of Katsina State,
The wife, children, and extended family of the late president.
President Muhammadu Buhari is remembered as a leader who stood firmly for national unity, discipline, and personal integrity throughout his time in office, both as a military Head of State and a democratically elected President.
The National Assembly prays for Almighty Allah to grant him eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus.
