Troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), under Sector 2 in Koulfoua Island, Lake Chad region, have successfully repelled a deadly attack launched by Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists. The joint military operation, carried out on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, resulted in the elimination of a notorious Boko Haram commander, Amir Dumkei, and five other fighters.
The terrorists launched a surprise assault in the early hours, targeting the MNJTF base at the Koulfoua bank. However, the troops responded swiftly with superior firepower and artillery bombardments, forcing the insurgents to retreat. Several of them escaped with gunshot wounds.
During the operation, MNJTF forces recovered nine AK-47 rifles, three motorized boats, and a large cache of ammunition, dealing a significant blow to the terrorists’ firepower and logistics.
Clearance and follow-up operations are currently underway as troops pursue fleeing insurgents to ensure the area is fully secured.
The Force Commander of the MNJTF, Major General Godwin Mutkut, praised the bravery and professionalism of the troops. He reaffirmed the commitment of the Task Force to restoring peace and ending terrorism across the Lake Chad Basin.
This latest success highlights the ongoing efforts of regional forces in countering terrorism and protecting communities affected by insurgent violence.
