The Federal Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi has ordered urgent repair works on the Keffi Flyover after it sustained major damage from a collision involving a truck transporting an excavator.

During an inspection on Sunday, July 20, 2025, the Minister confirmed that one beam of the flyover was completely dislodged while two others were structurally affected. The truck impact also damaged the walkway and parapet, prompting immediate safety concerns.

Engr. Umahi, accompanied by top ministry officials, including the Director of Press and Public Relations, Mal. Mohammed A. Ahmed, and the Federal Controller of Works for the FCT, Engr. Yakubu Usman disclosed that the flyover was closed to traffic as a precautionary measure following a preliminary assessment conducted on Thursday, July 17, 2025.

According to the engineers, while the underpass has been cleared for use, the overpass remains closed to avoid further risk. The Minister has directed Messrs CGC Nigeria Ltd., the contractor currently handling other projects in the FCT, to immediately commence the redesign and fabrication of a replacement beam while salvaging the two partially affected ones. The repair process is expected to take about 30 days, after which a structural test will be carried out before reopening the flyover.

The Minister confirmed that funding for the emergency intervention will be sourced through an internal repair fund while awaiting formal budget releases. He emphasized President Bola Tinubu’s full support and prompt directive to ensure the infrastructure is quickly restored, given its strategic importance to Nigeria’s transportation network.

Engr. Umahi also extended his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the incident and prayed for the swift recovery of those injured.

The Ministry of Works assures the public of its continued commitment to infrastructure safety and timely intervention during emergencies.
