In a bold political move, former House of Representatives member and ex-Director-General of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Hon. C.I.D. Maduabum has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing deep concerns over the party’s loss of internal democracy and ideological direction.
In a statement released on Saturday, Maduabum announced his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), calling the party “a credible democratic alternative” for Nigerians seeking change.
> “The PDP I served faithfully has been hijacked by individuals prioritizing selfish ambitions over national interest. The values that once made the party strong—discipline, justice, and reform—have been eroded,” Maduabum said.
The former lawmaker described the PDP as a “shadow of its former self,” accusing it of embracing internal betrayal and silencing reform-minded voices. He emphasized that his decision was the result of thoughtful reflection and wide consultations.
> “I can not, in good conscience, remain in a political structure that no longer aligns with my ideals,” he added.
Maduabum expressed optimism about his new political home, praising the ADC for promoting inclusive governance, youth participation, and ethical leadership. He noted that the ADC’s coalition includes progressive figures like Mr. Peter Obi, whom he referenced as a symbol of hope for a reformed political future.
> “I join ADC not just as a defector but as a committed reformer ready to contribute to rebuilding Nigeria,” he affirmed.
Maduabum called on other disillusioned Nigerians to rally around the ADC’s vision, stressing the urgent need for a shift away from what he described as the decaying structures of traditional parties.
As Nigeria approaches another election cycle, Maduabum’s move signals a potential wave of realignment among politicians seeking credible alternatives in the nation’s evolving democratic landscape.
