In a major political development in Niger State, Hon. Isah Saidu Baka, former Chairman of Lapai Local Government Area and ex-House of Representatives candidate, has officially dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Baka announced his resignation from the PDP in a letter dated July 22, 2025, addressed to the party’s Ward Chairman in Muye/Egba and the State Chairman. He cited personal and political convictions as reasons for his decision to part ways with the party he has supported for years.

> “After deep reflection and wide consultations with my family, political associates, and supporters, I have decided to leave the PDP. This move is driven by my desire to pursue new political opportunities that align better with my vision and the expectations of my people,” Baka stated.

Hon. Baka served as Chairman of Lapai LGA from 2011 to 2014 and was the PDP candidate for the Agaie/Lapai Federal Constituency seat during the 2023 general elections. He thanked the PDP for the platform and support throughout his political career.

> “I appreciate the experiences and relationships built over the years. I wish the PDP success in its future efforts,” he said.

Baka also declared his new political home, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a party he says reflects his renewed values and dedication to grassroots development.

His defection is part of a growing wave of high-profile exits from the PDP in Niger State, signaling possible realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
