Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has confirmed the deaths of several soldiers in the ongoing fight against banditry in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area. While the exact number of casualties was not disclosed, the Governor praised the bravery of the fallen heroes during an inspection of Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) recently deployed to the state.
Speaking at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi, Governor Idris reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting security agencies in their mission to restore peace in affected communities. He also assured the families of the deceased soldiers that the state government would stand by them.
“We are deeply grateful for the Federal Government’s intervention, especially the deployment of critical military equipment to bolster security in our vulnerable areas,” the Governor stated. “Kebbi State remains committed to assisting our security forces on all fronts.”
The inspection event featured the Commanding Officer of the 223 Light Tank Battalion, Zuru, Lt. Colonel Muhammad Saleh, who presented the newly acquired military hardware. He thanked the state government for its continuous support, emphasizing that the combined efforts of federal and state authorities are crucial in tackling insecurity.
Governor Idris also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Chief of Defence Staff, and service chiefs for their unwavering support in combating banditry in the Northwest.
“Our communities recognize the sacrifices made by our military personnel. The security agencies are doing their utmost to neutralize criminal elements, and we must all support them by providing timely intelligence,” Idris appealed.
Lt. Colonel Saleh echoed the Governor’s call, urging residents to assist with actionable information to help track and apprehend bandits.
Additionally, Major A.P. Azubuine of the 1 Battalion Rear, Birnin Kebbi, presented two more armoured vehicles, highlighting the Nigerian Army’s continued efforts to strengthen logistics and operational capabilities in the state.
