The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has cautioned Nigerians against underage and multiple voter registrations as preparations for the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in Kebbi State intensify. The exercise is scheduled to commence on August 18, 2025.
Speaking at a press conference in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday, INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Kebbi State, Alhaji Abubakar Sarkin-Pawa-Dambo, emphasized the Commission’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of the voters’ register. He warned that any attempts to engage in illegal registrations, including double registration, underage enrollment, registration by proxy, or providing false information, would not be tolerated.
“The Commission will enforce strict compliance with electoral guidelines. We will not condone multiple registrations, underage registration, or any unlawful attempt to register,” Sarkin-Pawa-Dambo stated.
The REC explained that the CVR will begin with an online pre-registration portal opening on August 18, while physical, in-person registration will start on August 25 at INEC offices across all local government areas in Kebbi State.
Eligible Nigerians, especially those who recently turned 18, are encouraged to register. Additionally, individuals who have misplaced or damaged their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), changed their residential addresses, or need corrections to personal details such as name or date of birth can participate in the exercise.
The physical registration will hold daily from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., excluding weekends and public holidays, at designated INEC area offices in Kebbi State.
Providing an update on voter data, Sarkin-Pawa-Dambo disclosed that Kebbi State had 2,032,041 registered voters for the 2023 general elections. Of this figure, 54% (1,096,449) were male, while females accounted for 46% (935,592).
Kebbi State is divided into 225 Registration Areas (RAs) and 3,743 Polling Units across three senatorial districts and nine federal constituencies.
He further revealed that 1,847,752 PVCs had been collected, reflecting a 97% collection rate. The REC urged those who are yet to collect their PVCs to do so once the new collection dates are announced.
INEC reiterated its commitment to free, fair, and credible electoral processes, urging citizens to participate responsibly in the registration exercise.
