The Federal Government has taken decisive steps to address the lingering crisis at the Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka, Lagos. The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, has officially inaugurated a Special Visitation Panel tasked with investigating and resolving the institution’s internal disputes.
The seven-member panel is chaired by former Bauchi State Governor, Dr. Mohammed Abubakar, a seasoned administrator known for his experience in governance and public service. The panel’s primary mandate is to assess the root causes of the ongoing leadership tussles, administrative challenges, and issues affecting academic and non-academic staff welfare at the college.
Speaking during the inauguration in Abuja, Dr. Alausa emphasized that the panel’s work is crucial to restoring peace and stability to the institution. He noted that the Federal Government is committed to fostering a conducive learning environment across all tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
“Our focus is on transparency, fairness, and upholding due process in addressing the grievances that have disrupted academic activities at FCE Akoka. The panel will engage all stakeholders and ensure that sustainable solutions are recommended,” Dr. Alausa stated.
The Minister charged the panel to submit its findings and recommendations within six weeks, after which the Federal Ministry of Education will take the necessary steps to implement actionable solutions.
The crisis at FCE (Technical) Akoka has sparked concerns among education stakeholders, students, and staff, prompting calls for urgent intervention by the Federal Government. With the inauguration of this Special Visitation Panel, it is hoped that lasting peace and effective governance will be restored at the college.
