The Nigerian Police have arrested Mr. Joseph Eriki, Director of Investigation and Prosecution at the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), alongside Boniface Agwu, over allegations of criminal conspiracy, trespass, and forgery.
The duo, identified as the first and third defendants in a suit filed by the Federal Government, are expected to be arraigned on October 30, 2025, at the FCT High Court in Garki, Abuja.
Justice Suleiman Belgore had issued a bench warrant on May 27, 2025, ordering the arrest of the accused persons to face trial on a 9-count charge, which includes alleged land grabbing and document forgery.
During a previous court session, Prosecuting Counsel David Kaswe informed the court that despite being granted administrative bail and duly notified of the charges, efforts to bring the defendants for arraignment had failed.
The prosecution alleges that the defendants unlawfully trespassed on Plots 461–470 and 486–496, which are legally owned by a private company, and illegally erected structures with the intent to defraud the rightful owner.
The case has drawn significant public attention, as it highlights ongoing concerns about land racketeering and abuse of office within the Federal Capital Territory.
The court has fixed October 30, 2025, for the arraignment proceedings.
