Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno Cautions Residents to Steer Clear of Eket’s Stubb Creek, Vows Lasting Solution

Mediaplusng.com reports that Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has issued a stern warning to residents and all parties involved in the ownership dispute over the Stubb Creek Forest Reserve, located in Eket Local Government Area. The Governor emphasized that the area remains a government-designated forest reserve and should not be subjected to unauthorized activities.

Governor Eno, addressing the rising tension surrounding the Stubb Creek ownership, urged for calm and cooperation from all stakeholders. He revealed that the state government is taking decisive steps to resolve the long-standing conflicts by setting up a committee that will ensure a permanent solution and end hostilities in the area.

Mediaplusng.com reports that the Stubb Creek Forest Reserve, also known locally as Akoiyak Ekid, has faced increasing encroachment since its gazettement in 1930. The reserve has been threatened by human activities such as farming, oil exploration, and illegal residential development, leading to recurrent clashes among neighboring communities.

During his visit to the Eket Federal Constituency, Governor Eno reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to safeguarding the environment while promoting peaceful coexistence. He assured constituents that the government will prioritize their welfare, in line with the Arise Agenda blueprint, which focuses on sustainable development and community upliftment.

Governor Eno also warned against any attempts to sabotage the state’s development initiatives, especially in the Eket region, which he described as his “second home.” He pledged more infrastructural investments in the constituency and commended local leaders for their unwavering support of his administration.

Mediaplusng.com will continue to provide updates as the government rolls out its plans for the resolution of the Stubb Creek dispute and the protection of Akwa Ibom’s natural reserves.
