President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Engr. Abdullahi Garba Ramat as the new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Nigeria’s apex regulatory body in the power sector.
According to Mediaplusng.com reports, Engr. Ramat, 39, is a certified electrical engineer and administrator with a doctorate in Strategic Management and other professional qualifications. His appointment reflects the administration’s commitment to strengthening leadership in the energy sector.
In addition to Ramat’s nomination, President Tinubu also named two other individuals to serve as commissioners on the NERC board. They are:
Mr. Abubakar Yusuf – nominated as Commissioner for Consumer Affairs
Dr. Fouad Olayinka Animashun – nominated as Commissioner for Finance and Management Services
All three nominations are subject to confirmation by the Senate, as required by Nigerian law.
However, in order to maintain stability and prevent a leadership vacuum within the regulatory agency, Mediaplusng.com reports that President Tinubu has directed Engr. Ramat to assume the role in an acting capacity pending Senate approval.
The President charged the nominees to deploy their expertise to support the federal government’s reform agenda in the power sector, and to work diligently in delivering reliable, accessible, and affordable electricity for Nigerians.
