DEPOWA President Launches Nationwide Support Campaign for Wounded Soldiers and Families of Fallen Heroes

The wife of Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, Mrs. Oghogho Musa, has launched a nationwide campaign to honour and support troops of the Nigerian Armed Forces fighting insecurity across various parts of the country.

Mrs. Musa, who is also the President of the Defence and Police Officers Wives Association (DEPOWA), flagged off the initiative during a two-day official visit to Maiduguri, Borno State — a move aimed at appreciating frontline soldiers, visiting wounded troops, and empowering widows of fallen heroes, Mediaplusng.com reports.

This marks the first-ever visit by a Chief of Defence Staff’s wife to Maiduguri since the Boko Haram insurgency began in 2009. The campaign, tagged “Thank You to Our Troops”, is designed to recognize the sacrifices of soldiers, provide moral support, and mobilize resources for their welfare.

During the visit, Mrs. Musa met with the Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Zulum, at the Government House before proceeding to the Headquarters of Operation Hadin Kai, where she was received by the Theatre Commander, Maj. Gen. Abdulsallam Abubakar.

She also visited the 7 Division Hospital and the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital to meet with wounded soldiers, presenting them with donations and words of encouragement. On the second day, Mrs. Musa paid her respects at the Maimalari Military Cemetery, honouring fallen troops who lost their lives in service to the nation.

Speaking at the campaign launch, Mrs. Musa praised the bravery and commitment of Nigerian troops, saying the initiative will be extended to all 36 states of the federation to provide consistent support for injured personnel, widows, and families of the fallen.

The DEPOWA President noted that the project aims to boost the morale of the armed forces and inspire public appreciation for their sacrifices.
