Crisis Hits ADC in Kebbi as Faction Suspends Leaders Linked to Malami

A fresh leadership crisis has broken out in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kebbi State, as a faction of the State Working Committee has suspended top party officials allegedly loyal to former Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami.

According to Mediaplusng.com, the aggrieved members held an emergency meeting in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday, where they resolved to remove the State Chairman, Engr. Bala Sufiyanu, Deputy Chairman Junaidu Muhammed Mudi, and Secretary Hawwa’u Muhammed from their positions. In their place, Abdulrazaq Abubakar Isah was appointed as interim State Chairman, while Adamu Aliyu was named interim State Secretary.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, ADC Publicity Secretary Mallam Jamilu Muhammed urged members of the public not to engage with the suspended officials. He accused them of lacking moral integrity, transparency, and accountability, alleging that they had derailed from the party’s core principles and failed to embrace inclusive leadership.

“We had no choice but to suspend Engr. Bala Sufiyanu and his associates,” Jamilu said. “They have been taking unilateral decisions and conducting official party business without consulting other executive members.”

However, Engr. Sufiyanu Bala, who is backed by the Malami Movement, dismissed the allegations and accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of sponsoring unrest within the ADC. In a statement he personally signed, Bala described the APC’s actions as “desperate” and aimed at tarnishing both the ADC and Malami’s image.

He further alleged that the APC was behind a planned press conference scheduled for August 12, 2025, in Kebbi State, which he claimed was designed to create division and question Malami’s membership in the ADC. “The aim is to factionalize the ADC and spread falsehood about Malami’s standing in the party,” Bala said.

The Bala-led ADC faction accused the APC of trying to destabilize the party because of its declining popularity and poor performance in governance. They described Malami as a respected legal figure and proud son of Kebbi State whose values align with those of the ADC.

Mediaplusng.com reports that the crisis marks another chapter in the growing internal rifts within opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.
