President Tinubu Arrives Japan for TICAD9 Summit

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Tokyo, Japan, to participate in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9). The high-level summit, which brings together African leaders, international development partners, and stakeholders, will run from August 20 to 22 at the Pacifico Yokohama.

According to Mediaplusng.com, Tinubu’s aircraft touched down at 00:50 am local time on Tuesday at the Presidential Wing of Haneda International Airport, Tokyo. He was warmly received by Ambassador Hideo Matsubara, the Ambassador in charge of Haneda Airport for TICAD, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, and senior officials from the Nigerian Embassy.

The TICAD initiative, first introduced by the Japanese government, is a triennial event co-hosted with the United Nations, UNDP, the African Union Commission, and the World Bank. The conference alternates between Africa and Japan, with the last edition hosted in Tunisia in August 2022.

As reported by Mediaplusng.com, TICAD9 will run under the theme: “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa.” The summit will spotlight Africa’s economic transformation, private investment opportunities, and institutional development. It will also address human security, peace, and sustainable growth across the continent.

During the three-day conference, President Tinubu is expected to hold bilateral talks and engage in high-profile meetings with chief executives of Japanese companies that have significant investments in Nigeria. His participation signals Nigeria’s renewed drive to deepen economic partnerships and attract foreign investment.
