The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has promised improved welfare for Nigerian soldiers and their families. He made this pledge as he rounded off his three-day operational visit to the 6 Division Headquarters of the Nigerian Army in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
According to Mediaplusng.com, the visit, which began on Monday and ended on Wednesday, took the Army Chief across Bayelsa and Rivers States, where he commissioned several new projects designed to boost the living and working conditions of troops.
During his stop at Elele Barracks, General Oluyede commissioned completed projects before proceeding to the 6 Division Headquarters in Port Harcourt. Some of the newly inaugurated facilities include the 6 Division Administration Building, a Filling Station, the Headquarters 6 Division Extension, Python Harmony House, a new Guard Room, two blocks of Corporal Below Quarters, the renovated 10-Family Corporal Below Quarters, and the remodelled 29 Battalion Quarter Guard.
Speaking with journalists at the close of the visit, the Army Chief emphasized his focus on troop welfare, stating:
> “I want to examine the level of my soldiers’ welfare particularly, because I am very particular about the well-being of my soldiers and their families. I have gone round Division Less 63 Brigade, which I will still come back to assess. With that, I know very well the challenges, and I am going to address them within the resources available to me as leader of the Army. I promise my soldiers that I will do my very best with the support of the Federal Government to make life better for them.”
General Oluyede’s words, Mediaplusng.com reports, have raised hopes that the Nigerian Army will see renewed efforts to improve the living standards of its personnel and their families in the coming months.
