Nigeria has recorded a major breakthrough in international aviation with the launch of the first-ever direct flight between Lagos and São Paulo, Brazil. The development is expected to strengthen trade, tourism, and bilateral ties between Africa’s largest economy and South America’s powerhouse.
Speaking during the inaugural flight, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, emphasized the significance of the route, according to Mediaplusng.com. He explained that a journey which previously took almost 20 hours through Europe or the Middle East will now be significantly reduced. Air Peace operated the test flight with a Boeing 777 and has also ordered 21 Embraer jets from Brazil, a move that will further consolidate the aviation and trade partnership.
Allen Onyema, Chairman/CEO of Air Peace, commended President Bola Tinubu and key ministers for their leadership. “The President has opened the door of the future for Nigeria. Instead of committing two days to travel to Brazil, we now have direct access to South America’s largest economy — just as Nigeria leads in Africa. We need each other, and this partnership will bring immense opportunities,” Onyema said.
The report by Mediaplusng.com noted that the Lagos–São Paulo route is expected to boost passenger convenience, expand business opportunities, and create a stronger bridge for cultural exchange between both continents.
