African Sports Ministers Back Nigeria’s Bid for 2030 Commonwealth Games, 2031 African Games

African sports ministers have pledged full support for Nigeria’s ambition to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games and the 2031 African Games. The show of solidarity comes as Nigeria intensifies its push to secure the two major sporting events.

According to Mediaplusng.com, Nigeria’s bid has received positive signals from regional sports leaders who described the country as a “deserving candidate” because of its history of sporting excellence, vibrant youth population, and existing infrastructure. The support is seen as a strong boost to Nigeria’s chances at the international level.

The Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, noted that Nigeria is ready to demonstrate its capacity to host world-class events. He said the country is committed to mobilizing both government and private sector support to ensure the success of the bid.

Mediaplusng.com reports that many African sports ministers at the meeting emphasized the importance of rallying behind Nigeria, stressing that hosting the Games in Africa would showcase the continent’s growth in sports, tourism, and unity.

If successful, Nigeria will become the first West African country to host the Commonwealth Games. Sports stakeholders say the opportunity will not only boost the economy through tourism and job creation but also inspire millions of young Africans to embrace sports.
