The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has welcomed the ruling of the Päijät-Häme District Court in Finland, which on Friday sentenced Simon Ekpa to six years in prison for terrorism-related offences.
According to Mediaplusng.com, General Musa described the judgment as a major breakthrough in the global fight against terrorism and violent extremism. He stressed that the conviction proves that individuals who incite violence or fund terrorism will face justice, no matter where they are based.
In a statement signed by Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Information, the CDS noted: “This judgment sends a strong message that there is no safe haven for individuals or groups who sponsor or encourage acts of terror against Nigeria or any other sovereign state. The Armed Forces of Nigeria commend the Finnish authorities for their diligence in ensuring justice is served.”
Mediaplusng.com also reports that General Musa extended appreciation to Nigerian security agencies, intelligence units, law enforcement officers, and diplomats for their tireless collaboration in providing credible evidence that secured the conviction. He said the outcome highlights the importance of international cooperation in tackling cross-border security threats.
The Defence Chief reaffirmed the commitment of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to strengthen partnerships with global allies in dismantling terrorist networks and restoring peace across the country. He also urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies in the fight against insurgency and violent separatist groups.
