The Zamfara State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has faulted Governor Dauda Lawal over his comments on the worsening insecurity in the state.
Governor Lawal had recently lamented that the fight against banditry was being hindered because security agencies in Zamfara still receive directives from Abuja instead of the state government. According to Mediaplusng.com, the governor said this centralised command structure limits the ability of his administration to respond effectively to the crisis.
Reacting to the statement on Monday in Gusau, the Zamfara ADC Chairman, Kabiru Garba, reminded the governor that insecurity was his major campaign promise during the 2023 elections. He argued that as the chief security officer of the state, Lawal cannot use Abuja’s control of security operatives as an excuse.
Garba stressed that the governor was fully aware of Zamfara’s security challenges before his election. He added, “We heard the governor the last time saying he has challenges. These are not excuses, because he went to those villages during campaigns promising them security.” The ADC also called on the Minister of State for Defence and former Zamfara governor, Bello Matawalle, to use his current position at the federal level to support the fight against banditry. Mediaplusng.com reports that the party urged Matawalle to show leadership and assist his home state.
The ADC further appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently address the escalating security crisis or consider resigning, while insisting that the party is ready to offer solutions if given the opportunity.
