Former AGF Malami Petitions NSA, IGP Over Alleged Plot to Destabilize Kebbi

Former Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has raised alarm over what he described as a plot to destabilize Kebbi State through the use of political thugs, foreign mercenaries, and illegal arms trafficking. Malami, who is also the leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the state, has written a petition to top security officials seeking urgent intervention.

According to Mediaplusng.com, Malami’s petition, dated September 10, 2025, was addressed to the National Security Adviser (NSA), the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Comptroller-Generals of the Nigeria Immigration Service and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps. The former AGF alleged that certain political actors are working with mercenaries from the Niger Republic to smuggle arms into the country and intimidate citizens in Kebbi.

Malami stressed that his claims are backed by credible intelligence and personal experience. He pointed to an alleged attack on September 1, 2025, where he and other indigenes were reportedly assaulted by armed thugs “operating without fear of law enforcement.” He further accused Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Nasir Idris, and some associates of aiding these activities, claiming they have links with the terrorist group known as Lakurawa.

In its report, Mediaplusng.com noted that Malami described the situation as a “national security emergency” that threatens both Kebbi State’s stability and Nigeria’s sovereignty. He urged the NSA and other security chiefs to take immediate action, including inter-agency coordination, tighter border security, and a high-level investigation into the alleged collusion between state officials and armed groups.

The petition was also copied to the heads of the DSS, Police, Immigration, and civil defence, underscoring the urgency of the concerns raised.
