Troops of Operation Fasan Yamma (OPFY) have achieved a major breakthrough in the fight against terrorism and banditry, recording significant successes in Zamfara and Sokoto States. According to the Nigerian Army, the operation led to the interception of ransom payments totaling over ₦23 million, the recovery of more than 160 rustled livestock, and the rescue of kidnapped victims. Several terrorists were also neutralized during coordinated raids carried out between September 8 and 10, 2025, across Shinkafi, Gusau, Bukkuyum, and Tureta Local Government Areas.
Mediaplusng.com reports that the operation began with a sweep along the Shinkafi–Katuru–Galadi–Tubali axis, where troops from 1 Brigade and the Mobile Strike Team stormed terrorists’ hideouts in forested areas. A stop-and-search along Shinkafi–Katuru–Isa Road also led to the arrest of suspects carrying ransom money: ₦8.7 million seized in one incident, and ₦15 million discovered later the same day in a Toyota Corolla. Investigations revealed the cash was ransom collected for locals abducted near the Nigeria–Niger Republic border. The money and suspects have since been handed over to security agencies for further investigation.
In another coordinated effort, Mediaplusng.com gathered that troops ambushed terrorists transporting stolen livestock from Talata Mafara and Tureta LGAs to hideouts in Bagega and Furagirke forests. The criminals abandoned their captives and animals during the operation. Troops successfully rescued eight victims and recovered 164 sheep, which were later handed over to the chairmen of Bakura and Tureta LGAs.
Meanwhile, troops on patrol around Lilo–Kofi Road in Gusau LGA came under heavy attack from terrorists. In the fierce gun battle that followed, six terrorists were killed. Sadly, the Nigerian Army confirmed that three soldiers lost their lives, while two others later died from critical injuries sustained during the operation.
Operation Fasan Yamma reaffirmed its commitment to intensify military pressure on terrorists until peace is restored in the North West and parts of the North Central. The public has been urged to continue supporting security forces with credible intelligence to aid the fight against terrorism.
