South-South Youth Summit Targets Social Vices in Port Harcourt

Security agencies, youths, and students came together in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, for the South-South Youth Multi-Agency Summit, an event aimed at tackling rising social vices affecting young people in communities across the region.

According to Mediaplusng.com, the summit created a safe platform where participants discussed practical ways to reduce the influence of crime, drug abuse, and internet fraud among Nigerian youths. The convener, Ade Emmanuel of the Coalition of Nigerian Youths on Security and Safety Affairs (CONYSSA), explained that the goal is to encourage positive behaviour and inspire young people to make meaningful contributions to society.

Representatives of major government agencies also delivered strong messages. Matthew Ewah, Zonal Director of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), warned students about the dangers of drug abuse and urged them to remain drug-free. Similarly, Coker Oyegunle, Head of the Advance Fee Fraud Section at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), advised youths to avoid internet fraud and other financial crimes, stressing the severe legal consequences.

In its report, Mediaplusng.com noted that the National Orientation Agency (NOA) praised the initiative and encouraged young Nigerians to believe in the country’s future. NOA’s Chioma Okonkwo emphasized that building a better nation requires youths to stay committed to positive values and national development.

The convener assured participants that this summit is only the beginning of continuous engagements designed to chart a new course for young people in Nigeria. Organizers believe the conversations will strengthen collaboration between government institutions and the youth in addressing crime, security, and nation-building.
