Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has removed all commissioners and public officers whose appointments were affected by the recent Supreme Court judgment, with immediate effect.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Nelson Chukwudi, the decision follows a private valedictory session with the cabinet at Government House, Port Harcourt. The session was part of activities marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.
Governor Fubara thanked the outgoing commissioners for their service and contributions to the growth of Rivers State over the past two years. He also urged Nigerians to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the collective effort to build a peaceful and prosperous nation. The governor further pledged to continue serving Rivers people with renewed commitment while extending Independence Day goodwill to citizens.
Mediaplusng.com reports that the move comes after the Supreme Court recognized Martin Amaewhule as the lawful Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly. The ruling invalidated all actions taken by Victor Oko-Jumbo, who presided as Speaker and screened most of the commissioners that served in Fubara’s cabinet.
With this decision, fewer than 10 commissioners are expected to be retained while the governor begins the process
