Senate President Godswill Akpabio has called on lawmakers to recommit themselves to accountability, discipline, and purposeful governance as they continue their legislative duties.
Speaking at the opening of a plenary session, Senator Akpabio reminds his colleagues that their primary duty is to serve the Nigerian people. “To the citizens of Nigeria, we hear you. You asked us not for excuses but for results. We will remain accountable and responsive,” he declares.
According to Mediaplusng.com, the Senate President emphasizes the importance of maintaining order within the legislature and warns against any action that could weaken democratic institutions. He notes that those who attempt to undermine the National Assembly are, in effect, trying to erase the foundation of democracy itself.
Akpabio describes governance as a “sacred duty of trust” rather than a platform for showmanship. He urges politicians to value competence over popularity, saying that leadership should be about service, not self-interest. “Let us choose the right men and women for the service of our nation, not the loudest voices or those seeking office as an ornament,” he advises.
On national issues, Mediaplusng.com reports that Akpabio calls for urgent attention to the flood disasters affecting many communities across the country. He assures victims that the 10th Senate remains committed to providing necessary support and relief.
The Senate President also highlights recent improvements in Nigeria’s oil production and praises President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for stabilizing state finances. He adds that “no state governor is borrowing to pay salaries,” while urging lawmakers to maintain fiscal discipline and transparency
