INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu Hands Over to May Agbamuche as Acting Chairman

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, has officially handed over leadership to Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu, the oldest serving National Commissioner, who will now serve as the Acting Chairman of the Commission.

Professor Yakubu made the announcement during a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) at the INEC headquarters in Abuja on Monday. According to him, the handover is in line with administrative procedures pending the appointment of a substantive chairman by the Federal Government.

In his remarks, Professor Yakubu urged all INEC commissioners, directors, and staff to give their full support to Mrs. Agbamuche-Mbu as she takes over leadership duties. He commended their continued commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s electoral process and ensuring the credibility of future elections.

Her appointment as acting chairman is expected to maintain stability and continuity within INEC as preparations continue for upcoming electoral activities across the country.
