Tinubu Calls for Global Action Against Resource Theft, Illegal Mining in West Africa

President Bola Tinubu is calling on West African leaders to unite and push for the recognition of resource theft, illegal mining, and mineral smuggling as international crimes. He says these activities have become major threats to peace, stability, and development across the region.

Speaking in Abuja through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, during the Annual General Meeting of the Network of National Anti-Corruption Institutions in West Africa (NACIWA), Tinubu stresses that urgent global action is needed to stop the growing menace of resource exploitation by criminal networks.

According to Mediaplusng.com, the President expressed concern that despite many years of independence, most West African countries continue to face setbacks in economic growth and political stability due to corruption and the looting of mineral resources. He says corruption not only drains national wealth but also fuels insecurity and inequality.

Tinubu’s message highlights the importance of collaboration among African nations and the global community to protect natural resources, strengthen governance, and promote transparency. As reported by Mediaplusng.com, he emphasizes that sustainable development can only be achieved when leaders work together to eliminate the deep-rooted corruption that hinders progress across the continent.
