The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has achieved another major breakthrough in its fight against cybercrime with the conviction of 59 foreign nationals linked to a large international internet fraud syndicate uncovered in Abuja. According to Mediaplusng.com, the convictions mark a significant step in the ongoing prosecution of suspects arrested in November 2024 by the National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC).
The operation, conducted on November 3, 2024, followed credible intelligence that led police operatives to a building in Jahi, Abuja. The raid resulted in the arrest of 130 suspects, including 113 foreigners from China and Malaysia, and 17 Nigerians. They were accused of engaging in large-scale internet fraud, hacking operations, and other cybercrimes threatening Nigeria’s digital security. Investigations and strong forensic evidence have now secured convictions for a total of 85 suspects, with more cases still in court.
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, says the convictions reaffirm the Force’s commitment to tackling cybercrime and ensuring national safety. He notes that the development sends a clear message to both local and international criminal networks that Nigeria will not be a safe haven for cybercriminals.
The Police Chief also assures Nigerians that the Force will continue to adopt modern technology, deepen global partnerships, and maintain rigorous investigations to dismantle cybercrime networks. Mediaplusng.com reports that the Nigeria Police remain resolute in protecting citizens and preserving the nation’s digital integrity.
