The Federal Government has launched the Customs Verification Management System (CVMS) — a major digital innovation designed to move the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) closer to full automation and smarter customs operations.
According to a report by Mediaplusng.com, the CVMS serves as a comprehensive digital platform that enhances the verification of customs documents, ensures the authenticity of clearance procedures, and promotes transparency and integrity across all levels of operation. With this system, document verification will now be centralized and fully digital, reducing human errors, eliminating manual processes, and speeding up trade facilitation across ports and borders.
The initiative underscores the government’s commitment to using technology to drive revenue generation, compliance enforcement, and national security. It also supports Nigeria’s broader agenda to create a seamless, tech-driven business environment that enhances trust between government agencies and the private sector.
Speaking at the launch, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, described the CVMS as a milestone achievement that signals a new era of credibility, accountability, and efficiency in customs operations. He noted that the system would not only enhance trade but also rebuild confidence in Nigeria’s customs verification process.
Mediaplusng.com reports that the CVMS aligns with the Federal Government’s vision for a modernized customs administration, one capable of supporting sustainable economic growth and improving Nigeria’s standing in global trade.
