The Niger State Government has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic petrol tanker explosion that occurred on Monday, October 21, 2025, at Essa community in Katcha Local Government Area. The incident claimed several lives and left many others injured, sparking grief and shock across the state.
In a statement obtained by Mediaplusng.com, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Duties, Dr. Murtala Bagana, said the state government stands in solidarity with the victims and their families during this difficult period.
> “Our hearts are heavy as we mourn with the people of Essa and surrounding communities. This is a painful loss for our state. We stand in solidarity with all those affected,” Dr. Bagana said.
Acting on the directive of Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, a high-powered delegation led by Dr. Bagana visited the scene of the explosion and hospitals where victims are being treated. The Governor has also approved free and comprehensive medical care for all survivors of the tragic incident.
According to Mediaplusng.com, victims with severe injuries are being moved to the National Hospital, Gwagwalada, for advanced treatment, while others are receiving medical attention at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Bida, and Agaie General Hospital.
While consoling the bereaved families, Dr. Bagana warned residents against the dangerous habit of scooping fuel from fallen tankers—a risky act that has caused repeated disasters across the country.
> “We mourn with the affected families and pray for the souls of the departed. We also appeal to residents to avoid the dangerous act of scooping fuel from accident scenes. Our administration remains fully committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our people,” he added.
The Niger State Government reaffirmed its commitment to improving road safety, strengthening emergency response systems, and enhancing infrastructure development to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
