Labour Party Accuses INEC Acting Chair of Collusion with Julius Abure Over Fake Court Order

The Labour Party has accused the Acting Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu, of criminal collusion with the former National Chairman of the party, Mr. Julius Abure, over what it describes as a fake and non-existent court order.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the party alleged that Mrs. Agbamuche-Mbu conspired with Mr. Abure to mislead political stakeholders and the public by citing a forged court order from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, Gwagwalada, purportedly recognising Mr. Abure as the Labour Party’s National Chairman.

According to the Labour Party, the alleged forgery followed a meeting Mrs. Agbamuche-Mbu held with leaders of the 18 registered political parties on October 14, 2025, during which Mr. Abure was reportedly invited. The party said that a day later, INEC’s Acting Chair defended her actions by claiming she was acting based on a valid court order.

However, Mediaplusng.com reports that the party’s investigation revealed no such court order exists. The statement explained that while Mr. Abure filed a case — Suit No: CV/1914/2025 — before Justice Kayode Agunloye of the FCT High Court, Gwagwalada, a formal verification from the court confirmed that no order recognising him as chairman was ever issued.

The Labour Party has therefore challenged Mrs. Agbamuche-Mbu to produce the alleged court document, accusing her of “relying on a fabricated and politically motivated order to justify an illegal act.” The party added that even if such an order existed, it would still be nullified by the Supreme Court’s ruling of April 4, 2025, which upheld Senator Nenadi Usman as the authentic National Chairman of the Labour Party.

The statement described the alleged action by INEC’s acting leadership as “a deliberate attempt to subvert democracy and undermine the rule of law.” It further demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of Mrs. Agbamuche-Mbu for her role in what it termed a judicial conspiracy against the Nigerian people.

In response to the controversy, the Labour Party has called on its supporters nationwide to mobilise peacefully and occupy INEC Headquarters until the Commission complies with the Supreme Court’s judgment and Mrs. Agbamuche-Mbu is brought to justice.

As reported by Mediaplusng.com, the party also urged the incoming substantive INEC Chairman to investigate the matter and ensure accountability within the Commission, warning that “elements of destabilisation” must be purged to protect Nigeria’s democracy.
