Troops Neutralize 80 Armed Bandits in Kebbi, Strengthen Border Security

Troops of the Nigerian Army have neutralized no fewer than 80 armed bandits during a coordinated operation along the Kebbi–Zamfara border, successfully preventing a major infiltration into Kebbi State.

According to Abdullahi Idris Zuru, Special Adviser to the Governor on Communication and Strategy, the operation—which took place between Friday night and early Saturday—is a direct result of the proactive measures implemented by Governor Nasir Idris to strengthen border security and curb bandit activities across the state.

Zuru explained that the troops acted on credible intelligence that revealed movements of heavily armed bandits around Makurdi village in Ngaski Local Government Area. The intelligence prompted the swift deployment of well-equipped troops to the area, leading to an intense firefight that ended with the elimination of dozens of criminals.

> “About 80 bandits were neutralized, and several others escaped with injuries,” said Abdulrahaman Usman, the Director of Security in the state. “Troops also recovered motorcycles and rescued two kidnapped victims during the operation.”

Mediaplusng.com reports that the successful military onslaught is part of a broader security strategy directed by Governor Idris, which includes the strategic positioning of troops at key border points with Sokoto, Zamfara, and Niger States. The governor had earlier requested additional support from federal authorities to strengthen ongoing counter-banditry efforts.

To boost operational capacity, the Kebbi State Government has provided 100 Hilux patrol vehicles and 5,000 motorcycles to aid security agencies in their response to rising threats. This robust logistical support, coupled with improved intelligence-sharing, has contributed significantly to the string of recent military successes.

Reacting to the development, the Emir of Yauri, Dr. Zayyanu Muhammad, praised the troops for their bravery and commended Governor Idris for his consistent efforts in safeguarding lives and property across the state.

The Kebbi State Government reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and security, assuring residents that more coordinated operations will continue to flush out criminal elements threatening the stability of the region.
