The Plateau State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has elected Chief Raymond Dabo as its new State Chairman, alongside 38 other executive members, to lead the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The State Congress, held on Saturday at the WAYE Foundation in Doi-Du, Jos South, is described as one of the most peaceful and transparent exercises in the party’s recent history. According to Mediaplusng.com, the congress follows the PDP constitution and marks an important milestone in strengthening internal democracy within the state chapter.
Announcing the results, Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Hon. David Embughadu, declared that Chief Raymond Dabo polled 2,162 votes to emerge as Chairman, while Engr. Gyang Tanko secured 2,102 votes as Deputy Chairman. Other key officers include Mr. Michael Dachom as State Secretary and Dr. Felix Choji as Publicity Secretary. All elected officers were immediately sworn into office.
Speaking after the announcement, Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang described the event as “a turning point in the journey toward PDP’s resurgence and victory in 2027.” He commends members for showing unity, loyalty, and political maturity during the process.
“Since I joined the PDP, this is the first State Congress we are holding without a contest. With this, we have shown true commitment to working together as one family,” Governor Mutfwang stated.
The Governor acknowledges that while the zoning process created some early disagreements, the peaceful resolution of those issues shows the strength and maturity of the party. He also appreciates aspirants who stepped down for peace, urging members to rally behind the new leadership.
“I want to thank those who may feel shortchanged. You chose peace over grievance for the common good of our party. The time for exclusion is over — our focus now is unity,” he said.
Responding to concerns about recent defections, the Governor expresses confidence in the PDP’s strong base and influence in Plateau State.
“I heard that some people have left. We are waiting to see the day they will go with the crowd they claim to have. Plateau is PDP, and PDP is Plateau,” Mutfwang emphasized.
The Governor also praises the outgoing Caretaker Committee, led by Hon. Chris Hassan, for their commitment and role in the PDP’s 2023 electoral success, despite court judgments that later affected the party’s representation.
In his farewell speech, Hon. Hassan thanks his team for their dedication, describing their tenure as a period of service and sacrifice. The INEC representatives were also present to monitor the process and ensure full compliance with electoral guidelines.
In his acceptance speech, Chief Raymond Dabo promises transparent, inclusive, and accountable leadership. “This is a call to service, not celebration. I will work closely with all stakeholders to strengthen our party structure and ensure credible primaries ahead of 2027,” he said.
According to Mediaplusng.com, the newly inaugurated executives are expected to begin work immediately to consolidate the PDP’s base and reposition the party for future victories.
