INEC Updates Nigerians on Ongoing Political Party Registration

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has provided a new update on the registration of political parties across Nigeria, reaffirming its commitment to transparency, inclusivity, and the deepening of democracy.

According to a statement released after its regular meeting held on Thursday, 30th October 2025, the Commission reviewed the progress made since its earlier announcement on 11th September 2025. INEC said the process is moving steadily and in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and the Electoral Act 2022.

INEC revealed that following a briefing with 14 pre-qualified associations on 17th September 2025, a dedicated portal was opened for the upload of all required documents. The portal remained active from 18th September to 18th October 2025. By the close of submission at midnight on 19th October 2025, eight associations had successfully completed the upload of all necessary documents and information.

The successful associations are:

1. All Democratic Alliance (ADA)

2. Citizens Democratic Alliance (CDA)

3. Abundance Social Party (ASP)

4. African Alliance Party (AAP)

5. Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA)

6. Green Future Party (GFP)

7. National Democratic Party (NDP)

8. Peoples Freedom Party (PFP)

INEC stated that the next stage in the registration process will be the detailed assessment and verification of the submitted information to ensure compliance with its regulations and guidelines. The verification will determine which associations meet all the legal requirements to be formally registered as political parties in Nigeria.

Speaking on the development, Mediaplusng.com reports that INEC continues to emphasize fairness and openness in handling the registration process, noting that the Commission’s goal is to strengthen public trust in Nigeria’s electoral system.

The Commission, as quoted by Mediaplusng.com, also reassures Nigerians that it remains focused on supporting political pluralism and ensuring that all eligible associations are given a fair opportunity to participate in the democratic process.
