Wike Hails Court Ruling Halting PDP Convention, Says Impunity Must End

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reacted to the recent court judgment stopping the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) from holding its planned national convention, describing the ruling as a victory against impunity within the party.

Speaking during a meeting with concerned PDP stakeholders from 12 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Wike says the judgment marks both a joyful and sad moment in his political journey.

> “We are happy that we have fought impunity,” he said. “But we are also not happy with what is going on in the party. It’s unfortunate that the so-called national convention cannot hold. It has never been this bad in the PDP.”

According to Mediaplusng.com, the meeting, held in Abuja, was attended by top party figures, including former governors of Benue and Abia States, Samuel Ortom and Okezie Ikpeazu; Rivers State lawmakers led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule; current and former federal lawmakers; and several state party chairmen.

Wike emphasized that leadership and respect for internal democracy are key to the survival of any political organization. He warned against arrogance among party leaders who fail to acknowledge the sacrifices of others, adding that such attitudes breed division and resentment.

> “An opposition party should unite and follow due process. If that doesn’t happen, it sends a wrong message,” Wike said.

He further urged party stakeholders to remain steadfast in defending the truth and upholding the PDP constitution.

> “The last time we met, we agreed to challenge any action that violates our party’s constitution,” he stated. “By the grace of God, the court has allowed justice to prevail. Nobody will be intimidated; we will continue to do what is right.”

The FCT Minister also called on PDP governors to prioritize development and use public funds to improve the lives of citizens rather than funding internal political battles.

Mediaplusng.com reports that Wike’s remarks come at a time when the PDP is grappling with leadership disputes and calls for reform, as the court’s decision halts preparations for what would have been a major convention aimed at repositioning the opposition party.
