Religious Freedom Is Our Identity — Tinubu Counters Christian Genocide Claims

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed Nigeria’s strong commitment to protecting religious freedom and promoting peaceful coexistence among all faiths.
Mediaplusng.com reports that this statement comes amid recurring allegations from some international advocacy groups and religious bodies accusing the Nigerian government of not doing enough to prevent attacks on Christian communities.

The President’s response follows remarks by former U.S. President Donald Trump, who reportedly described Nigeria as a “country of particular concern” over claims of widespread attacks on Christians.

In a statement issued on Saturday, President Tinubu said Nigeria remains a democracy built on constitutional guarantees of liberty, tolerance, and respect for human rights. He noted that his administration continues to work closely with both Christian and Muslim leaders to address security challenges affecting citizens across different faiths and regions.

> “Nigeria stands firmly as a democracy governed by constitutional guarantees of religious liberty,” Tinubu said. “Since 2023, our administration has maintained open engagement with religious leaders and continues to address issues that affect all Nigerians, regardless of faith.”

According to Mediaplusng.com, Tinubu dismissed claims portraying Nigeria as religiously intolerant, describing such narratives as “misleading” and inconsistent with the nation’s true identity. He stressed that the government remains committed to protecting the freedom of religion and belief for every citizen.

> “Religious tolerance has always been a core part of our identity,” Tinubu added. “Nigeria does not support or condone any form of persecution based on faith.”

The President also pledged to strengthen partnerships with the United States and other international allies to promote mutual understanding and improve the protection of faith-based communities across the country.

> “Our administration will continue to work with the U.S. government and global partners to deepen cooperation in safeguarding religious communities,” he concluded.
