Niger Insecurity: Maj. Gen. Warrah Promises Stronger Offensive Against Bandits and Terrorists

The newly appointed Theatre Commander of the Joint Task Force, North-West Operation Fasin Yamma, Major General Warrah Idris, promises a renewed and decisive military offensive against banditry, terrorism, and other violent crimes in parts of Niger State.
Mediaplusng.com reports that the commander gives this assurance during his familiarization and operational assessment visit to the state.

According to Mediaplusng.com, Major General Warrah says his visit helps him study the terrain, check troop readiness, and strengthen coordination as security forces intensify operations across affected communities.

Speaking at the Government House in Minna, the Theatre Commander says the Nigerian military remains fully committed to restoring peace under the directive of the Chief of Defence Staff and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Maj. Gen. Warrah Idris:
“We are here to work. Our mission is to bring peace and security to the people, that is our passion and our mandate. Victory will be ours, Insha Allah.”

Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago receives the Theatre Commander and his team, praising their efforts and assuring them of the state government’s full support.

Gov. Umaru Bago “We are grateful for your perseverance and the reassurance you have given to Nigerlites. Seeing your men and equipment on our roads has restored confidence in our people. The end of criminal hideouts has come by the grace of God.”

Governor Bago explains that Niger’s vast landmass, especially the Borgu and Kainji Lake axis, has long been exploited by criminals due to its thick forest areas. He calls for more Forward Operating Bases, increased air support, and heavier firepower to boost the ongoing operations.

The Governor also offers to support the recruitment of 25,000 local youths who will work with security forces to reclaim communities and maintain peace across the state.

Major General Warrah Idris, accompanied by senior officers from the Army, Air Force, and Navy, including the GOC 1 Division, Brigadier General M.U. Jibo, and Air Vice Marshal U.K. Abdullahi, applauds the state government’s cooperation. He assures residents that the Joint Task Force will continue pushing until peace is fully restored.

The Theatre Commander of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Warrah Bello Idris, today pays his first operational and familiarisation visit to Sector 1 Headquarters at the 1 Division Nigerian Army, Kaduna. He is received by the General Officer Commanding 1 Division and Commander Sector 1, Major General Abubakar Sadiq Mohammed Wase.
According to Mediaplusng.com, the visit marks a renewed push to strengthen coordination and frontline effectiveness across the North West.

During the briefing, Major General Wase presents an update on recent operational gains, ongoing challenges, and new strategies designed to keep pressure on terrorists, bandits, and other criminal groups within the Sector. The Commander highlights improved troop deployment, intelligence sharing, and sustained clearance operations that continue to reduce criminal activity in key locations.

Major General Idris, in his remarks, calls for a stronger operational drive aimed at the total eradication of banditry and terrorism across the North West and the entire country. He praises the professionalism and resilience of troops in Sector 1, noting that the decline in attacks is a direct result of effective kinetic actions and enhanced interagency collaboration.
Mediaplusng.com reports that he urges officers and soldiers to remain disciplined, focused, and committed to the mission.

The Theatre Commander also warns against operational lapses that could lead to avoidable losses of personnel or military equipment. He assures troops that more combat enablers, logistics supplies, and technical support are being provided to boost operational efficiency and ensure mission success.

Key highlights of the visit include an interaction session with officers and soldiers, a tour of the Sub-Sectors—such as the Air Component at the Air Training Command Kaduna—and a courtesy visit to Niger State Governor, Hon. Mohammed Umar Bago. Both leaders discuss areas of concern and the need for intensified joint operations to strengthen regional security and restore lasting peace.
