Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, says the Ibadan 2025 National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will be remembered as the turning point that sets the party on a new path. He makes this statement in Ibadan during his welcome address at the convention, held at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba.
Governor Makinde tells delegates that the PDP has fought through many internal battles to arrive at this moment, adding that the determination of members shows the party’s resilience. According to him, the convention “will go down in history as the event that brings a real turnaround to the PDP nationally.”
Mediaplusng.com reports that the governor also encouraged guests to enjoy the rich culture and hospitality of Ibadan.
Makinde welcomes PDP leaders and delegates from across the country, urging them to enjoy the city and its popular meals, especially amala and gbegiri. He says the people of Oyo State are proud to host the gathering and remain committed to strengthening the party.
Fintiri: Nigeria Still Looks to PDP for Rescue
Chairman of the National Convention Organising Committee and Governor of Adamawa State, Umaru Fintiri, says Nigerians are waiting for the PDP to rescue the nation from economic and political challenges. He explains that despite the party’s internal issues, the PDP’s “soul is still intact” because loyal members have kept its values alive.
He urges members who left the party to return, noting that the PDP must reinvent itself, rebuild loyalty, and restore unity. Fintiri adds that the journey to the convention has been tough, but the challenges show the party is on the path to something greater.
Leaders Reaffirm PDP’s Strength and Unity
Governors, lawmakers, and leaders from different arms of the party use their goodwill messages to declare that the successful hosting of the convention proves the PDP remains strong and cannot be pushed aside.
Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, speaking for PDP governors alongside Governors Bala Mohammed and Caleb Mutfwang, says the party has arrived at the convention “as a united front determined to save Nigeria’s future.” He urges members to give full support to the party’s leadership.
BoT Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara says the convention is a clear sign of the party’s unity and its commitment to democracy. He praises Governor Makinde, the Damagum-led NWC, and the organising committee for their efforts. Wabara encourages the incoming NWC to run an inclusive and consultative leadership that carries all members along.
According to Mediaplusng.com, Wabara also insists that the PDP’s role in Nigeria cannot be erased and that the party will continue to stand strong.
Senator Abdul Ningi, representing the Senate PDP Caucus, says the turnout at the event shows that “PDP is not dead and cannot die.” He describes the convention as proof that the party has survived its challenges.
Also, Hon. Fred Agbedi, speaking for the PDP Caucus in the House of Representatives, promises that lawmakers will work closely with the party leadership to reposition the PDP. He stresses that internal saboteurs must be checked to protect the party’s future.
