The Nigerian Senate has ordered an urgent investigation into the withdrawal of security troops from a Kebbi school before a recent bandit attack. The inquiry also covers the killing of Brigadier General Musa Uba. Mediaplusng.com reports that the Senate has directed its committees on Army, Defence, Police Affairs, Interior, and Special Duties to jointly conduct the probe and submit findings within two weeks.

Lawmakers have emphasized the need for accountability, insisting that the investigation must clarify how troop movements may have contributed to the attack and ensure similar lapses are prevented in the future.

The Senate further resolved that its leadership will meet immediately with President Bola Tinubu to brief him on the outcomes of the security debate. Mediaplusng.com notes that the chamber also plans diplomatic engagements with the United States to seek collaboration in tackling Nigeria’s growing security challenges.

Senators highlighted that the probe is crucial to restore public confidence in national security and reinforce the government’s commitment to safeguarding citizens, particularly schoolchildren in vulnerable areas.
