Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru, resigns from office with immediate effect. His resignation follows a letter dated December 1, where he informs President Bola Tinubu that he is stepping down due to health reasons.

According to Mediaplusng.com, President Tinubu has accepted Badaru’s resignation and expressed gratitude for his service to the nation. The President is expected to notify the Senate about a new Defence Minister later this week.

A statement from the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirms the development. Mediaplusng.com adds that the Presidency is moving quickly to ensure a smooth transition, especially as the administration intensifies its national security efforts.

Badaru Abubakar, 63, served as the Governor of Jigawa State from 2015 to 2023 before his ministerial appointment on August 21, 2023. His exit comes at a time President Tinubu recently declared a national security emergency, with more details expected soon.
