Dangote Refinery Invites Regulator to Verify Petrol Output

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Dangote Refinery invites the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) to its Lagos plant to verify its actual daily petrol production. The move comes as the refinery prepares to supply 50 million litres of petrol per day through December 2025 and January 2026.

Mediaplusng.com reports that the invitation follows NMDPRA’s recent disclosure that the refinery delivered an average of 18.03 million litres of petrol daily between October 2024 and October 2025—lower than the earlier expected 35 million litres per day.

In a letter signed by Chief Executive Officer David Bird, the refinery formally asks NMDPRA CEO Farouk Ahmed to visit the facility and independently confirm its output. According to the company, the visit will help address speculation and ensure clear public communication about its daily production capacity.

Mediaplusng.com adds that Dangote Refinery is ready to publish daily production and stock figures across print and digital platforms to strengthen transparency. The company also says NMDPRA officials will be hosted at the site from December 1 to verify and publicly announce its actual supply volumes.

Aliko Dangote reveals that the refinery will supply 1.5 billion litres of petrol to the Nigerian market in December 2025 and another 1.5 billion litres in January 2026. He explains that the refinery currently produces 40–45 million litres daily and has sufficient stock to meet the national requirement of 50 million litres per day.

He further confirms that supply will rise to 1.75 billion litres in February 2026—over 60 million litres per day—while discussions continue with petroleum marketers to strengthen distribution systems and expand CNG-powered haulage for fuel transportation.

Dangote stresses that the refinery’s priority is national energy security, not profit, and says plans are underway to scale capacity to 1.4 million barrels per day.

Managing Director of the South-South Development Commission (SSDC), Usoro Akpabio, commends Dangote for strengthening Nigeria’s industrial capacity and enhancing long-term energy stability.
