President Bola Tinubu says his administration is committed to transforming Nigeria’s unstable and insecure regions into thriving centres of economic activity. He makes this pledge during the launch of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Mediaplusng.com reports that President Tinubu highlights key gains under his security reforms, including the surrender of insurgents, elimination of top terrorist commanders, improved joint military operations, and stronger maritime security.

According to Mediaplusng.com, the President says the Ministry of Defence is developing a new programme that will deploy retired military personnel to reclaim ungoverned and vulnerable spaces. The initiative aims to restore government control, secure communities, and open new grounds for economic activity.

President Tinubu also restates his commitment to the welfare of security personnel. He lists ongoing efforts such as improved barracks, increased allowances, expanded healthcare coverage, and better pension verification systems for retired officers. He praises serving troops for their courage in fighting terrorism, banditry, insurgency, oil theft, and piracy, noting that their sacrifices have helped restore stability across many communities.

The President describes Armed Forces Remembrance Day, celebrated every January 15, as a solemn moment for the nation to honour fallen heroes. He says Nigeria must support the families of soldiers who died defending the country and care for those still serving under difficult conditions.

“As a grateful nation, we must honour the fallen, support the wounded, and care for all who answer the call to serve,” he says.

President Tinubu donates ₦200 million to support the event. Senate President Godswill Akpabio donates ₦100 million, while the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, contributes ₦20 million, bringing the total to ₦320 million.

The President also unveils the “Thank a Soldier” QR code platform, allowing Nigerians at home and abroad to send messages of appreciation to military personnel. He says the initiative will boost digital engagement and encourage young people to participate in national service.

Tinubu urges Nigerians to reject division and embrace unity, describing the country’s diversity as a national strength that must be protected.

The event is attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, ministers, and heads of various security agencies.
