The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump announces new visa restrictions targeting Nigerians accused of funding or supporting violence against Christians in the country.
According to Mediaplusng.com, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirms the policy in an official post on X, stating that the United States is taking “decisive action” in response to alleged attacks and violations of religious freedom in Nigeria and other countries.
Rubio notes that the restriction affects individuals who direct, fund, support or participate in actions that undermine religious freedom. The policy also extends to foreign governments or persons linked to the alleged persecution of Christians. Mediaplusng.com reports that the U.S. aims to curb terrorism financing and protect vulnerable communities.
The Nigerian government, however, rejects claims of genocide, insisting that the country’s security challenges cut across all religions. Officials say all citizens, Christians and Muslims, are affected by the ongoing insecurity.
