Former Senate Leader, Senator Ali Ndume, calls on President Bola Tinubu to withdraw the newly submitted ambassadorial nominee list, warning that it violates the federal character principle ahead of Senate screening.
According to Mediaplusng.com, the appeal comes days after the Senate President presented the list during plenary and referred it to the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs for screening.
In a statement, Ndume argues that the distribution of nominees does not reflect Nigeria’s diversity as required by Section 14(3) of the 1999 Constitution. He says the constitution mandates that federal appointments must promote national unity and prevent domination by any ethnic group, region or state.
As Mediaplusng.com reports, Ndume warns that keeping the list in its current form could worsen ethnic tensions and damage public confidence in the Tinubu administration. He urges the President to avoid any decision that may create distrust or threaten national unity.
Ndume further appeals to President Tinubu to send a fresh list that fully complies with the federal character principle and ensures fair representation for all states and geopolitical zones.
