The Federal High Court in Abuja rejects the request by IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu to be moved from the Sokoto Correctional Centre to another custodial facility closer to the Federal Capital Territory.
According to Mediaplusng.com, Kanu, through the Legal Aid Council, files an ex-parte motion asking the court to order the Federal Government or the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) to transfer him to Kuje Custodial Centre in Abuja or Keffi Custodial Centre in Nasarawa State.
He also asks the court to approve his movement to any facility within the court’s jurisdiction — including Suleja or Keffi — to help him effectively pursue his pending appeal. But Justice James Omotosho declines the request after reviewing the application.
As reported by Mediaplusng.com, Justice Omotosho rules that the court cannot grant such an order without hearing from the Federal Government. He states that the respondents must be put on notice to ensure fairness and proper response before any transfer order can be considered.
The judge then fixes January 27, 2026, for the hearing of the motion.
