Justice Emeka Nwite has ordered the remand of former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, his son Abdulaziz Malami, and Bashir To Asabe at Kuje Correctional Facility.
Mediaplusng.com reports that the remand is pending the hearing and determination of their bail application. The judge ruled that granting an oral bail request would be premature, as the defence had already filed a formal written bail application.
The defendants had pleaded not guilty to sixteen-count charges related to alleged corruption. Justice Nwite adjourned the matter to January 2, 2026, for the hearing of the bail application.
Mediaplusng.com adds that the ruling underscores the court’s insistence on proper legal procedure and adherence to due process in high-profile cases. The court confirmed that all security and procedural protocols are in place while the case proceeds.
