Reading Time: 2 minutes

Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), Joint Task Force North West, intensify coordinated offensives across the region, sustaining strong pressure on terrorist groups and recording fresh operational gains between January 21 and 22, 2026.

Mediaplusng.com reports that troops of the 8 Division Garrison Strike Force, working alongside Department of State Services (DSS) assets, engage terrorist elements during a fighting patrol in Gundumi Village, Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State. During the encounter, troops neutralise one terrorist, while others flee into nearby forests with gunshot wounds. Security forces recover six AK-47 rifles and three motorcycles from the scene.

The operation forms part of a wider intelligence-driven campaign aimed at denying terrorists freedom of movement and dismantling their operational capabilities across key flashpoints in the North West.

Mediaplusng.com further reports that troops of 1 Brigade, in collaboration with the Headquarters Joint Task Force OPFY Mobile Strike Team, act swiftly on credible intelligence indicating that injured terrorists are receiving treatment inside Bingi Forest. Upon arrival, the troops locate and destroy a makeshift medical facility used by the terrorists, dealing a major blow to their logistics and survival network.

Military sources say the destruction of the facility disrupts the terrorists’ ability to treat wounded fighters, regroup, and return to the battlefield, significantly weakening their operational strength.

Security analysts note that the sustained pressure by Operation FANSAN YAMMA reflects improved coordination, rapid intelligence response, and effective joint operations among security agencies in the region.

The Joint Task Force says the operations also send a strong message to criminal groups that no safe haven exists within the North West, as troops continue to dominate forests, villages, and identified terrorist routes.

According to the military, troops maintain high morale and combat readiness, with ongoing patrols and clearance operations aimed at flushing out fleeing terrorists and preventing their reorganisation.

The military high command commends the professionalism and resilience of the troops involved, urging them to sustain the operational tempo until lasting peace and stability are restored across the North West region.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA reassures residents that security forces remain committed to protecting lives, restoring confidence in affected communities, and supporting the return of normal economic and social activities across the region.
