Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso, son of former Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, resigns his position as Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development and member of the Kano State Executive Council under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

In a resignation letter dated Monday, Mustapha says the decision comes with a “heavy heart,” noting that serving the people of Kano State has been a rare privilege. He expresses deep appreciation to Governor Yusuf for the trust and opportunity to contribute to youth and sports development in the state, Mediaplusng.com reports.

The former commissioner acknowledges the support received from colleagues in the State Executive Council, ministry officials, and stakeholders in the youth and sports sector. He says his time in office offers valuable lessons in leadership, public service, and grassroots engagement with young people across Kano.

Mustapha also calls on the state government to sustain and expand programmes that empower young people, stressing that youth development remains critical to social stability, innovation, and long-term economic growth, Mediaplusng.com reports.

He prays for continued commitment to policies that strengthen sports development, talent discovery, and youth inclusion in governance. According to him, sustained investment in young people will help secure a more prosperous and united Kano State.

Political observers link the resignation to ongoing political realignments in the state, especially reports surrounding Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s planned defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

While no official statement directly connects the resignation to the governor’s anticipated move, analysts say the development reflects shifting political dynamics ahead of future elections in Kano State.

The resignation adds to a growing list of changes within the Kano political space, as alliances are reviewed and key actors reposition themselves amid national and state-level realignments.

For now, the Kano State Government is yet to announce a replacement for the Youth and Sports Development commissioner, while stakeholders watch closely for further developments in the state’s political landscape.
